Born in Upstate New York, Duncan was fascinated by photography at a very early age. But maybe not in the way that you think. Before the age of five, he used to find his mother’s film camera and dabble around with it. Was he taking photos? No. Instead, he was opening up the back compartment, ripping out the film, turning into a fashionable scarf and simultaneously leaving all of his mom’s images to be exposed to sunlight, completely ruining the film strip, and effectively wiping precious memories for that entire season.

Eventually by the age of seven, Duncan learned that film should not be worn as a scarf and started learning how to properly use a camera. Granted, it was a simple point-and-shoot camera, but nevertheless a remarkable step-up from his previous chaotic post-toddler phase. By the age of sixteen, he had taken his first photography class in high school, and thus, his love for photography blossomed. Working consistently throughout adolescence and his college undergrad, Duncan started freelancing in 2014. Since then, he has grown his business and established solid relationships in Capital District of New York, the greater Burlington, VT area, Boston, and Southern Maine.

In 2019, Duncan graduated from Champlain College in Burlington, VT with his Bachelor of Science in Communication, Media Production, and Public Relations. During his time in the 802, Duncan became heavily involved in his college’s community. Serving as a Peer Advisor, a Resident Assistant, a Student Ambassador, and an Orientation Leader. Throughout his responsibilities in these roles, Duncan earned a cumulative GPA of 3.61 in his academics. With his deep love for Vermont, Autumn foliage, Rookie’s Root Beer, and maple creemees, saying goodbye to his home of four years by Lake Champlain was emotionally the toughest departure Duncan had faced.

Since his graduation in 2019, Duncan has held a variety of professional roles: including being hired as a Staff Photographer for advertisement company JCDecaux North America in Boston, as well as a News Photographer role at WRGB CBS 6 News. Now, Duncan works as a Photographer & Social Media Specialist for the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), and currently is working towards his Master of Arts at the University of Maine (UMaine).
