hi, my name is Duncan.
Photography has fueled my curiosity. It has introduced me to people I never would have met, taken me to places I never expected to go, and continually challenges me to experiment and grow as an artist. One of my favorite parts of the process is meeting someone for the first time and watching their personality unfold as they become comfortable in front of the camera.
Curiosity extends far beyond photography. Whether I'm traveling to a new country or stepping on stage for an improv performance, I'm drawn to experiences that challenge me, teach me something new, and leave me with stories worth telling.
Much of my artistic inspiration begins with music. A lyric, a melody, or the way an artist revisits a memory can spark an entire new body of work. These moments often become the starting point for exploring larger ideas about memory, identity, and the emotional weight carried by everyday experiences.
Alongside my freelance photography, I'm pursuing an MFA in Intermedia at the University of Maine. While portraiture remains at the heart of my practice, my work has expanded into installation, sound, and mixed media, exploring the intersections of memory, identity, and human connection. Whether I'm creating work for a gallery, collaborating with a client, or photographing someone for the first time, I'm interested in how photographs can preserve not only what someone looked like, but what it felt like to experience a meaningful moment together.
